Rockaway Beach Oregon Coast Vow Renewal - Oregon Elopement Photographer
Vow renewals are my favorite. They're very much in the same spirit as eloping in general. Instead of fitting the celebration of your marriage into one day, you get to continue to celebrate it as you see fit. It means even if your wedding was missing some elements, you can revive the experience with a vow renewal. You can take all that pressure off a single day and know you can get a second chance (or third, or fourth...) to celebrate with your love.
As an elopement photographer, the most common regret I hear is wishing they had eloped. They had the traditional wedding and it felt rigid and forced. They hardly got time together, the emotion was stifled, and it wasn't what they envisioned. A vow renewal is the perfect option to remedy this. You can do it a year down the road, 5 years, 10, whatever works for you. No one is going to get offended that they aren't invited because you're already technically married. You can take on that adventure elopement you didn't even know existed when you first got married.
These two had a traditional style wedding and there were some elements they missed that day they wanted another shot at. This round, they even got to include their son. I had the honor of capturing both their original wedding and their vow renewal. As someone who transitioned away from traditional weddings to photographing exclusively elopements, it was affirming to see the big smiles on their faces as we hiked on the Oregon Coast cliffs versus our experience snapping their wedding photos in front of the only tree in the church parking lot during their traditional wedding.
Enjoy the recounting of their day and take this as a reminder to celebrate your marriage however you want (even if it means "marrying" the same person over and over).
